From biotech pioneer to integrated group of companies

More than 30 years ago, graduates of the Technical University of Darmstadt founded the company "B.R.A.I.N.". Today we are an integrated group of companies and our next goal is to develop into a leading international company for specialty enzymes. Here you will find important milestones of the past years.

1993

Founded on September 23, 1993 as B.R.A.I.N. Biotechnology Research and Information Network GmbH in Darmstadt, Germany

Move to Zwingenberg in a Bauhaus building (former Fissan factory, built in 1934)

Spin-off of the pharmaceutical business into the wholly-owned subsidiary VISCUM AG

2000

Conversion to a stock corporation

2006

BRAIN and MIG Fonds close 12.5 million Euro expansion financing round

2008

Dr. Holger Zinke, founder and former CEO of B.R.A.I.N., receives the German Environmental Award 2008

Acquisition of L.A. Schmitt GmbH, a cosmetics developer and manufacturer based in Ludwigsstadt, Germany

2010

Co-founded Enzymicals AG as a minority shareholder

2011

Majority acquisition of Monteil Cosmetics International GmbH, Düsseldorf, Germany

2012

BRAIN closes EUR 60 million financing round to expand its buy-and-build strategy

2013

Acquisition of natural compound chemistry specialist Analyticon Discovery GmbH, Potsdam, Germany

IPO and listing on the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (ISIN DE0005203947 / WKN 520394). B.R.A.I.N. is the first bio-economy company to be listed on the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Acquisition of shares in enzyme specialist Biocatalysts Ltd. in Cardiff, UK

Participation in the foundation of SolasCure Ltd.
