Biocatalysts Ltd and GOA Ventures have announced a long-term strategic collaboration. The collaboration aims to accelerate the development of sustainable protein and renewable energy solutions from marine algae. This represents a significant advance in the environmentally responsible use of this promising resource.

GOA Ventures is recognised as an innovator in the sustainable marine algae industry. Under the partnership, the company will use its proprietary two-step enzymatic process to revolutionise the potential of algae as a food and renewable energy source. GOA's process is based on precise enzymatic hydrolysis of the seaweed cell wall, enabling the efficient extraction of valuable ingredients from fresh algae.

With increasing global demand for sustainable protein sources and environmentally friendly energy alternatives, Biocatalysts Ltd and GOA Ventures aim to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and provide a future-proof solution for the protein market.

Two-stage collaboration

The collaboration will initially focus on the use of Biocatalysts Ltd's existing enzyme portfolio. In the long term, it will involve the joint development of novel enzyme solutions to optimise and expand value creation. The research and development work will be led by BRAIN Biotech's R&D team in Zwingenberg, Germany, to improve the efficiency of the enzymes and to develop customised solutions.
